WHY I QUIT MY JOB?

To begin with, let’s just say that I quit because I wanted to write this blog.

A little background information would be better just to put things in perspective, so I hold an MBA degree in Marketing(make a note of this word dear reader) from not so famous college(so let’s not name it) located somewhere in India. Yes, I am from India (you got me here, good job). Through college placements, I landed Job in hardcore B2C sales (and my major was Marketing, gentle reminder) in Telecom giant (Vodafone, before Jio, swept them off their feet), worked for 2 years, almost 24*7, each day every year to increase their revenue.

Moving on, switched to Education sector, just for the sake of challenge and slowly and gradually completed next 7 year with 3 different companies, increasing their revenue, in B2B sales.

At 32 and with a family to support, and a 2-year-old to look after, the question most people asked was why I quit my job to be an Entrepreneur and freelancer at this age.

The right question in my opinion, which almost no one asked till the point of publication of this Blog is, what stopped you from doing it earlier?

Now, a simple answer to this question, dear darlings, would be, I was caught in an endless loop of salary and sales. But slowly as I matured and got a better understanding of the market and started gathering knowledge through various sources, got to know that the world is far bigger and better, and there is a lot to do rather than selling and receiving a salary in return.

Now, the hardest part of quitting, which most people would think, including you, yes you, would be obviously the Income. See, I knew you thought about it, I just made sure you did.

But, the hardest part isn’t quitting, the hardest part is preparing your mind to accept the fact you are taking a risk which has a 50–50 chance at success and failure. The hardest part is making your mind accept that if you fail, it will not be the end; it will mark the beginning of something else, because as a human you can fail only infinite times in your life, right. Enough about failures now, let’s not get gloomy.

So, to overcome the depression that was just bestowed upon you, let’s talk about the other half of 50–50, so success, yes, light up, smile and think about the times that you have succeeded, let’s take a moment to appreciate your success.

Okay now that we all have celebrated our successes, let’s talk about chances of success, among all the infinite chances of failures lies one opportunity of having success.

I have to just focus only on that (easier said than done, yeah, understood what you are thinking, we have the same thought process, welcome humans).

Now let’s take a moment to understand how a human brain functions. It’s a wonderful servant but a terrible master, if you let it work by itself it will suggest all the cons and you will have to search for pros to stay motivated. If you make it accept that, listen boss “this is the only way forward, I have decided, and let’s not deviate.” it will work alongside you in getting solutions to every hassle. You just felt what I did, I talked to my mind as a third person, to be honest, sometimes this is necessary, try it, trust me, it will work, yeah, I just gave you a proven psychology lesson, alas old habits die hard ( I was a Counselor for many years, Hence the free knowledge sharing ).

As mentioned earlier I am from a land that has been ruled and looted for as long as history is concerned, approximately 95% of us has that hereditary gene, to put our heads down and keep working for someone as long as our mind or body allows if you are not from India, and still read it to this point, let me tell you a fun fact, entrepreneurship is still looked down as a waste of your productive years, simply because of two major reasons. The first, the usual, because of the high risk of failing (not so fun fact, every individual has that fear ingrained, what if I fail ), only a few can mentally overcome and take a step forward, and we have seen the likes of Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and in the modern era Jeff Bezos and my favorite kind of mad, Elon Musk. Now, the second (applicable across Indian Subcontinent ), what will society say, what will relatives say, and sometimes, even if then you are not listening, they will resort to, what will street dog or a random cow think. LOL, I laughed myself while writing, but a fact is a fact.

These two are the main reason that entrepreneurship is still in its early phases in India, almost forgot, I was talking about myself, so how I overcame the first problem(high risk of failing) is simple (only saying because I have achieved this feat, try it yourself, I dare you ), keep talking to your mind as a third person and you yourself will see it accepting the fact that failure is okay, not giving a try is sinful, yeah another jargon, I know, I know. Now the second reason (People, relatives, random cow, street dog one), overcoming this is simpler than the first, stop listening, focus your mind and energy and keep doing what you set out to. There is a famous Indian song “Kuch to log kahenge, logo ka kaam hai kehna” which loosely translates into “People will say because they have a fucking mouth, stop giving a shit “.

So, finally, to the original question, WHY I QUIT MY JOB?

I quit my job to focus on myself, focus on what I love to do (rather than something I have to), I quit my job to take challenges (mental, physical, financial) head on and defeat them. I quit my job to tell my son a story, a story that will be intriguing, that will teach him that fear is just in our own minds. I quit my job so that I can prove to myself that I am good at what I did for the last 9 years. If you are still here, see, I just sold you my first of many Articles(and my major was marketing, remember).
